Tennis tournament raises £315 for charity

A TOTAL of £315 was raised by Wargrave Lawn Tennis Club’s charity Pink Tournament.

All 22 players dressed in pink for the doubles competition, which was won by Chris Reid and Alexis Alexander.

The proceeds will go to Younger People with Dementia, a charity based in Berkshire, which was chosen by the winners of last year’s tournament, Christine Cooke and Brian Curtis. The players were split into two groups and paired up with random partners. Each pair played eight games per match against five other couples.

Mrs Reid and Mr Alexander, who won group one, played the other group winners Tina Verran and Melinda Nye, from Shiplake, in the final, winning 5-0.

The winners received commemorative plaques and the pink glass bowl and souvenir trophies were presented to the runners-up.
