Henley Rotary Club

MEMBERS were treated to an entertaining talk on a year in the life of a mayor at their weekly meeting at Henley Golf Club on Tuesday.

Councillor Stefan Gawrysiak, who is a member of Henley Bridge Rotary Club, started by thanking those members of this club who had assisted with the marshalling and manning the water station at the recent Henley half marathon, which his club organises.

He went on to describe his year of office as mayor of Henley, which ended in May.

He said it had been a “huge honour” to have been elected to the post. Having been in teaching for 36 years, he knew he had a large ego but that took a big bump when he made the pages of the Henley Standard in only 49 of the 52 weeks!

Nevertheless, he carried out 700 engagements, enhanced somewhat because of the illness of his deputy, Councillor Martin Akehurst.
