Badminton coach plea

WOODCOTE’S RG8 Badminton Club is seeking a new coach for its junior section.

Trevor Peters, who currently holds the position, is retiring at the end of the year and there are fears that the club will fold if a replacement is not found.

The club was set up in 2004 and launched a junior section about six years later.

Players meet on a weekly basis for about 25 weeks during the spring and autumn.

Sessions typically attract about 15 players aged 11 to 16 and take place at Langtree School’s community sports hall from 6pm until 7.30pm. Committee member Chris Uden said: “We’re very well supported by the local community and the club is important from both a sporting and social point of view.

“We would hate to wind up the junior section because there’s nowhere else offering this locally. If they learn the right techniques at a young age, they’ll stay with them for life.”

Candidates need not be formally qualified but should have some experience of coaching, ideally with young people. For more information, call Mr Uden on (01491) 681263 or 07721 430400.
