MARK HANDS, an ambassadorial scholar from Louisiana, was the speaker at this week’s meeting of Henley Rotary Club.

He is sponsored for a one-year postgraduate period of study at New College Oxford by his local Rotary club in the city of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mark compared his home state, with jazz, tabasco foods, hurricane Catrina and a power outage at the Superbowl, with more sedate Oxford.

He graduated four years ago and has since worked for two years in Ecuador, helping underprivileged communities. He is taking a business studies degree at Oxford and plans to set up funding schemes to help entrepreneurial immigrant Latinos in America.

The vote of thanks was given by Mark Harling.
