THE cost of renting Benson Parish Hall will rise by three per cent next month. Councillors agreed unanimously that the increase is necessary in line with outgoings.
A survey of local halls is now expected to take place and the rental cost may subsequently rise further.
Councillor Patricia Bayliss said: “We have had a very quick look at comparable venues and it’s clear that our rates are much lower than other places.”
Meanwhile, a feasibility study will determine whether the hall should be extended. Two architectural firms have been appointed to carry out the study which is expected to take place during the next month. Councillors would like to extend the ground floor of the hall in order to accommodate the parish office, which is currently located on the first floor.
Councillor George Craig said: “What we definitely need, the main driver for it, is to provide a parish office which is more accessible.”
