May Fair introduces fancy dress contest

A CHILDREN’S king and queen fancy dress competition will be held at the Henley May Fair for the first time

A CHILDREN’S king and queen fancy dress competition will be held at the Henley May Fair for the first time this year.

The traditional fair, organised by members of the Round Table, will be held in Mill Meadows on May 6 from noon until 5pm.

Attractions will include ferret racing, Morris dancers and a performance by students from performing arts school StageWorks.

There will also be bouncy castles, face painting, live music, stalls and a beer tent as well as a children’s baking competition with prizes for best big cake, biscuits, tray bake and cupcakes.

Round Table chairman Nick Fox said: “We’re really excited by the programme for this year’s May Fair. It is an opportunity for many local charities to raise funds and gives Henley an opportunity to come together for a great afternoon by the river. Our thanks also go to our sponsor IBS Office Solutions and to Henley Town Council for their support.”

Henley Round Table is a voluntary group for men aged 18 to 45 which meets socially and raises money for good causes by organising events, including a fireworks night and a Christmas float.

In the past three years it has donated more than £20,000 to charities including the Chiltern Centre for disabled children in Henley and Bishopswood Special School in Sonning Common. For more information, visit www.henleyroundtable.co.uk or follow @HenleyRT on Twitter.
