A CHEF from the Watlington and district care home has won second prize in a cookery competition.

A CHEF from the Watlington and district care home has won second prize in a cookery competition.

Marcella Field, who is chef manager at the Hill Road care home, was one of six people who took part in the South-East regional final of the National Association of Care Catering’s care cook of the year competition.

Each chef had to produce a nutritionally balanced main course and pudding suitable for a care home setting. The dishes were then judged on creativity, cost and flavour.

Miss Field cooked chicken wellington served with seasonal vegetables, dauphinoise potatoes and chicken jus, followed by rhubarb and ginger syllabub with a tuile biscuit.

She said: “I enjoyed every minute of the experience. While I would have loved to win, I’m so pleased to have come second — it makes me hungrier for next year’s competition.”
