A PARTY with a Second World War theme was held at a Shiplake care home and raised £109.84 for the British Red Cross.

Residents of Lashbrook House and their families listened to live Forties and Fifties music performed by Ashley Stone, from Caversham, and enjoyed traditional war-time food including spam and corned beef sandwiches.

Authentic military tents were erected in the garden and winning raffle ticket numbers were drawn out of a replica bomb.

Penny Carter, the home’s activities co-ordinator, arranged the party to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the British Red Cross.

She said: “The residents really enjoyed the party, which brought back a lot of memories.”
