Youngsters to raise cash for youth club

MEMBERS of Watlington Youth Club have formed a committee to raise funds.

The five teenagers have been tasked with turning ideas including a talent show, sponsored cycle ride and auction into reality.

The club, which meets at the sports pavilion, lost its funding from Oxfordshire County Council two years ago.

Youth worker Jamie Hazeldine hopes to hold three or four fund-raising events each year.

He said: “It’s important to fund-raise because we are a voluntary organisation and self-sufficient. We have ideas about what we think the club could do to raise money but we need to know what the members would like to do and to give them a bit of responsibility.”

Fund-raiser Nicola Paterson said: “It is important for the youngsters to come up with their own ideas because they will be more enthusiastic about them. Fund-raising is vital to keep the club going.”

The club receives regular donations from local organisations, including Watlington Parish Council.
