Roger Sayer, of Queen’s Close, Henley, was inducted at the club’s annual changeover meeting held at Henley Golf Club on Tuesday.

Six men have joined the club in past year and Mr Sayer said: “I am very excited and I will continue to encourage new members because without them we cannot do what we do.” Mr Sayer, who has been a member of Rotary for five years, has four grown-up children with his wife Lynn and eight grandchildren.

Retiring president Will Busher, of Nicholas Road, Henley, said he was sad to be stepping down and joked: “They wouldn’t elect me as a president for life.”

He said the highlights of his year included supporting the annual Sue Ryder fireworks display, working with the Kenton Theatre and attending social functions.

Barry Prior is the club’s new president-elect and Michael Smythe is vice- president while Sam Lamden was awarded the pestle and mortar trophy for “hard grind”.
