SWIM entries for this year’s Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta are open.
The annual event, which takes place on August 10, includes a 1km standard course and a 2km advanced course which is two laps.
It will take place at 6am at the regatta fields which are signposted from Shiplake.
A ferry is available from the George & Dragon pub to transport those competitors and supporters attending from the Wargrave side.
The swim is open to all over the age of 16 and is ideal for those trying open water swimming for the first time.
There is free tea and bacon rolls for all competitors after the swim.
Spotters and canoeists from Wargrave Boat Club have volunteered to ensure that the swimmers are safe.
All entrants receive a complimentary enclosure pass for the regatta and can register for scratch dongoling.
No previous experience is required as the six-man punt crews are allocated on a random basis with an experienced steerer and five paddlers of differing age groups and abilities.
Dick Goodall, regatta chairman, said: “We got some great feedback from last year’s competitors and have worked hard to make this year’s event even more successful.”
Entry to the swim costs £25 and all proceeds go towards the Regatta Boat Fund which is used to maintain the event’s collection of traditional racing craft.
