Variety of boats on the water for Wargrave Rag

ABOUT 70 people took part in the annual Rag Regatta at Wargrave Boating Club.

ABOUT 70 people took part in the annual Rag Regatta at Wargrave Boating Club.

Competitors started from age six and they completed 80 races in punts, skiffs, kayaks and dinghies on Saturday. New for this year was a newcomers’ event for families who have recently joined the club.

Two adults and two children had to row in double dinghies and the winners were the Webster family.

Members of the club enjoyed a barbecue as they lined the riverbank to cheer on the competitors. Prizes were presented by Mike and Fiona Stubbs.

Organiser Sue Gutierrez described the event as a “great spectacle”.

She said: “There was the usual mixture of fun and competitive spirit and a lovely combination of novices, families, students back from university and experienced ‘old hands’.

“The organisers did an excellent job of keeping the races on track and the day culminated with two exciting dongola finals.”
