Cash gift to gardeners

GORING, Woodcote and District Lions have handed over the last of the proceeds from this year’s Goring 10km race.

They donated £500 to the Greenshoots charity in Peppard, which teaches gardening skills to people with learning difficulties and mental illnesses.

The money paid for a new lawnmower and an angled hedge trimmer, both of which were provided by Toad Hall garden centre in Henley. The items cost £750 in total but the charity was given a £250 discount.

Greenshoots is part of the Ways and Means Trust, and up to 30 people visit its premises at Manor Farm each week to grow flowers and crops.

The cheque was presented by past Lions president Chris Stevens. During his year in office, the club raised about £15,000. Other beneficiaries included Wyfold Riding for the Disabled and primary schools.
