Charity golf gala

GORING and Streatley Golf Club has raised £2,133 for the Helen and Douglas House hospice.

GORING and Streatley Golf Club has raised £2,133 for the Helen and Douglas House hospice.

The money was made at the club’s ladies’ midweek gala in which more than 100 people took part.

The day began with a team golf tournament. First prize went to Gillian Athey, Chris Carter and club captain David Slater.

Afterwards, members enjoyed a hog roast and charity auction with prizes including gift vouchers, works of art and champagne.

Ladies’ captain Jean Webster, of Manor Road, Goring, chose to support the Oxford hospice for children and young adults as she knew the architect, John Bicknell, who also lived in Manor Road until he died in 1997.

Mrs Webster said: “I wanted to support a local charity this year. The hospice does such important work so it was at the top of my list.”
