THE Goring and Streatley Local History Society has announced its winter lecture programme.

The season starts on September 16, when Rachel Sanderson, of the Chilterns Conservation Board, will discuss the Chilterns Commons Project. The initiative was launched in 2011 to encourage people to use public spaces and volunteer to look after them.

On October 14, Oxfordshire historian Tony Hadland will give a talk called Papists In The Thames Valley, which will examine the fate of Catholics who refused to become Protestants after the Reformation.

The lectures are held in Goring village hall at 8pm. For more information, call Janet Hurst on (01491) 871022.
