A FITNESS club has been launched in Hambleden.
It is part of Hambleden Sports and Social Club’s commitment to increase use of the new pavilion in return for a grant towards the building from Sport England.
The club, which is designed to encourage walking and running, meets on Saturdays and is run by Michael Clarke, a former army PT instructor.
He said: “It is all about getting individuals to push themselves a little more each week and that is why we have three disciplines — walking, jogging and running.
“We hope that people will progress from a brisk walk to a light jog and ultimately to a more intense run but there is no pressure to compete.
“We just want to give people the chance to do some exercise in the beautiful Hambleden Valley.”
The session starts from the pavilion on the Dene at 9.30am every Saturday and takes about 40 minutes. For a £1 donation, members can use the pavilion afterwards.
Pavilion manager Chris Francis said: “The pavilion is a great facility but it needs to work hard to cover its costs.
“We have tennis, football and cricket as regular users but need to encourage more casual users and this is an excellent way to showcase the club and facilities.”
