RESIDENTS of Wargrave are being offered the chance to dine with the former master of the QE2.

Ian McNaught, who was the last man to captain the Cunard flagship before she was retired from active service five years ago, is now deputy master of Trinity House, which is responsible for lighthouses, and executive chairman of the Lighthouse Board.

He will be the speaker at a dinner at Woodclyffe Hall on Thursday, October 24 (7pm), organised by the Warrgave and Twyford branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Guests will have a three-course meal and hear Captain McNaught’s memories of the QE2. He became the ship’s master in April 2003 and was in command on her final voyage to Dubai in November 2008.

Tickets, including a few for for the captain’s table, cost £30 and can be bought from RNLI committee member Chris Kaye on 0118 940 3772.
