Pupils raise funds

PUPILS from Langtree School in Woodcote raised money for a new sports pitch by taking part in a sponsored walk.

PUPILS from Langtree School in Woodcote raised money for a new sports pitch by taking part in a sponsored walk.

They completed a 10-mile circular route along footpaths from Woodcote to Goring Heath via Whitchurch Hill. The youngsters were supervised by parents and teachers, who set up marshal points along the way. All but 30 of the school’s 572 students took part.

After the walk, they enjoyed hot drinks and a barbecue. The event has so far raised £2,000 and parents have pledged a further £7,000, which the school hopes to receive by Christmas.

The money will go towards a £228,000 artificial pitch. The school intends to apply for grants and to stage other fund-raising events. Teacher Cindy Thatcher, who organised the walk, said: “It was a lovely day and the kids really enjoyed it.”

Langtree has held an annual walk for different causes for years.
