TWO thousand homes around Henley and Shiplake were without power on Monday. Blackouts were reported from 1.20pm and in some cases the power was not restored until about 3.25pm.

Southern Electric said that strong winds and prolonged heavy rain caused the disruption to the network.

A spokesman said: “We knew it was coming, so we brought in extra staff to deal with any faults and also any calls to the office. Engineers were sent to the area to get customers back on to the network as soon as possible.”

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning in Oxfordshire due to an area of low pressure coming from the south and warned drivers to expect flooding and disruption on the roads.
