WE were sorry to learn of the death of Guy Vermes, husband of Marie-Claude, former chairwoman of the twinning in Falaise.

On November 14 we had an enjoyable joint event with the Henley-Leichlingen twinning group. To supplement the wine and cheese, there was an enjoyable quiz.

Twelve adults and three children from Falaise took part in the Henley half marathon and were hosted by members of the association and Rotarians. Their visit included a supper party at the Little Angel.

Convivial French conversation evenings, where the able linguists tolerate and encourage the less gifted, have continued in members’ houses throughout the autumn and winter. These are co-ordinated by Margaret Evans. For more information, email her at mld_evans@hotmail.com

The annual meeting will take place at Henley Golf Club on Wednesday, March 4 at 7.30pm.

Our chairman Edward Sandars is standing down after 10 years’ sterling service.

A welcoming glass of wine will be served from 7pm and a meal will be served after the meeting at around 8pm. The cost of the dinner is £21 per person but members may attend the meeting.

Non-members with an interest in France, Normandy or French life will be welcome at the dinner at a cost of £23.

A visit from Falaise will take place from May 14 to 17.

The visitors will arrive on the Thursday evening after a day in London. They are planning a day visit to Stratford-upon-Avon on the Friday, hopefully accompanied by some hosts.

One the Saturday we plan to offer a visit to Ewelme and the watercress beds while the Chelsea Fringe Henley Festival is organising a floral flotilla on the river and other events, so there should be plenty of things for them to see while here. We will be having a dinner at Harpsden village hall that evening.

At 11.45am on the Sunday, there will be a twinning reception in the town hall, leaving the visitors ample time for a meal with their hosts before departing at 4pm.
