PHYLLIS Court Club in Henley has donated more than £25,000 to two good causes.

The charity action group at the private members’ club presented a cheque for £17,650 to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and one for £7,650 to the Chiltern Centre for disabled children in Greys Road, Henley. The group, which consists of 12 volunteers, has organised 11 fund- raising events in the past year and made over £1,000 more than was raised in each of the previous two years.

The events included a St George’s day tea, a hat sale, a concert with the Reading Male Voice Choir, a quiz night, a sale of beauty products, spring and Christmas fairs as well two new events, a murder mystery evening and a charity raffle and silent auction during Henley Royal Regatta week.

Anne Jones, a member of the club’s ruling council, said: “It is incredible for 12 people to have raised that much money in just one year. It shows how much enthusiasm and hard work they have put in and proves that Phyllis Court is not merely a self-regarding organisation.”
