Members revamp rowing club's bar

THE bar at Henley Rowing Club has been refurbished by members.

The room has been redecorated and the carpets cleaned and a television has been bought.

An old sign has been restored and put up behind the bar and commemorative club oars have been put on display at the clubhouse in Wargrave Road.

Beverley Mulrooney, the club’s manager, said: “It makes a massive difference to have all the work done. The old bar was run down. It might have been at the height of fashion when it was first done but not any more. It had become very cluttered.”

She thanked Gibbs & Dandy, who donated materials, Joe Hemani, of Westcoast, for the television and Get Furnished for bar stools.

Mrs Mulrooney added: “Without the time, effort and generosity of these people the refurbishment would not have been possible. Now we would like to get the furniture reupholstered – that is next on our wish list.”

The bar is used by rowers at the club after training. Now there are plans to hold monthly club social events.

Mrs Mulrooney said: “We also want to start doing corporate days in partnership with the River and Rowing Museum. It will provide a meeting room and lunches and we will provide a rowing experience for afterwards with the bar available for use as well.”
