Green-fingered children get planting

A NEW gardening club for children held a planting session at Henley YMCA

A NEW gardening club for children held a planting session.

The youngster from Sprouts, which is for children aged three and above, were working at Henley YMCA on Lawson Road.

With help from their parents, they planted a circular bed in the middle of the courtyard to replace where a wall had been.

Councillor Kellie Hinton, who chairs Henley in Bloom and organises the group, said: ?We planted mixed irises which will come up in June every year and can grow to 40cm.

?We also put freesias around the outside. They won't need to be replanted for years.

?It was really fun and everyone learned about the flowers, how to plant them, pollination and how the bulbs will grow year after year.?

The club meets once a fortnight and works in areas suitable for children and welcomes parents too.
