Health fair a success

A HEALTH fair was held in Benson on Saturday.

A HEALTH fair was held in Benson on Saturday.

There were 45 stalls in the parish hall offering advice and services as well as talks such as “How to use the NHS” by Dr Steve Ross and “Living with cancer” by Macmillan staff.

Visitors could take part in activities such as Nordic walking, Powerhoop fitness and rowing on ergo machines.

They could also have their blood pressure taken or find out more about the Alexander Technique, which is designed to improve posture.

The event was organised by the Benson Patients’ Panel in association with doctors and staff from the Mill Stream Surgery and practice manager Fran Butler.

John Reid, chairman of the panel, said: “It was huge success. I heard complimentary remarks from many people from the village and outside.”

Resident Janet Burtt said: “I was knocked out by the scope of the whole organisation. I talked to lots of the organisations taking part and they thought it was quite brilliant and a great opportunity to get their message out.

“It also put our panel and the surgery on the map.”

Free refreshments were provided by the Benson guides, led by Helen Stevenson, in the Memory Café.
