Football Club holds fundraising music night

A LIVE music night was held to raise money for Rotherfield United Football Club.

A LIVE music night was held to raise money for Rotherfield United Football Club.

About 90 people attended the event at Peppard war memorial hall, which raised £1,500 towards the club’s new clubhouse at Bishopswood sports ground.

The performers were Who is Smith, a five-piece covers band, and rock and pop group Pyjamas by Ten.

Guests were served drinks on arrival and then enjoyed a meal of chilli con carne and salad prepared by Sarah Sayer. All the ingredients were donated by players’ parents.

Ian McGowan, who manages the club’s under-11s team and attended the event, said it was a success despite starting late because people wanted to watch the FA Cup semi-final between Reading and Arsenal which went into extra time.

“Some people turned up happier than others,” he said. “Parents from across the age groups at the club attended and also contributed to a raffle.” Mr McGowan thanked all the volunteers for their hard work.

The club’s next fund-raising event will be a race night at Sonning Common Primary School next Friday (May 8) at 7.30pm.
