WE will be spending Tuesday evening (May 19) exploring happiness, starting with the question “Can we be happy without God?”
Happiness is an elusive state of mind which has been searched for all through human history. From the major religions, ancient Greek philosophy and modern psychology we have been grappling with the idea of how we can be happy.
Does believing in God make you more happy? Can science tell us anything on this topic? Is mindfulness useful or just a trendy modern buzzword?
As well as exploring these ideas and questions, we will attempt to make ourselves more happy.
Neil Denham, the speaker who will introduce the evening, is an occasional comedian and storyteller and has been both happy and unhappy at various points of his life, both as a Christian and a sceptic.
The main format of the evening will be discussion, both as a whole group and then round tables in a pub-style setting.
The meeting will be at the Salisbury Club, Queen Street, Henley, from 7.45pm to 10pm. Do come in time to buy a drink and chat before the formal start at 8pm.
The next event will be on June 16 and then in October. For more information, visit www.meetup.com/skeptics-and-believers-discussion-group-henley-on-thames
