The Henley Apples for Eggs event was held at the Local Larder at Val Wyatt Marine in Willow Lane.
The participants displayed their goods, including fruit, salsa and ornamental dragons made from beads, and then agreed to swaps without any money changing hands. Everything had to be worth the same as a box of six eggs.
Organiser Suri Poulos said: “It was no trouble to bring my baskets full of macaroons, challah bread and tomatillo salsa and things I picked from my garden that morning like lettuce, cabbage and strawberries.
“I swapped them for some delightful treats that I and my family are still enjoying like scones, plum jam, eggs, orange marmalade and chocolate bark.
“Not only is a food swap a very enjoyable and sociable way to spend an hour or two, but it is also contributing in a small way to things that are very close to my heart — the local community, the environment, organic and trustworthy food, sourcing our food locally and greater independence from large corporations.
“We do need more people to take part, which would make it much more fun.”
The next event will be held on Sunday, July 26. For more information, email Ms Poulos at firstname.lastname@example.org
