Fun swim added to regatta

A NEW open water swimming event has been added to the annual Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta

A NEW open water swimming event has been added to the annual Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta programme.

Go with the Flow will take place at 6.30am on Saturday, August 8 and is for those who want to take the 500m downstream route less seriously.

Participants will walk the upstream portion of the course before entering the water by the railway bridge and swimming back.

Flamboyant costumes and outrageous swimming techniques are encouraged.

Canoeists from Wargrave Boat Club will escort participants throughout the swim, aided by spotters on the bank.

The annual Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta swim has been running for five years and is open to all ages and abilities.

The 1,000m and 2,000m options will take place prior to the Go with the Flow swim. The 1,000m course consists of a swim upstream from just above the George & Dragon Pub to the railway bridge and back.

Competitors in the 2,000m swim complete two laps of the same course.

All competitors are rewarded with breakfast after the swim.

This year’s swim is sponsored by the Haweli Indian restaurant in Twyford. All competitors benefit from a 20 per cent discount on their bill when presenting their competitor’s wrist band.

Places are limited and registration is now open at www.wsregatta.co.uk
