ESTATE agent Joy Arnott has been inducted as president of the Rotary Club of Henley Bridge.

Outgoing president Alan Dawe thanked fellow Rotarians for a highly successful year which saw record numbers at the Henley half marathon and the Sue Ryder fireworks, which the club organises, and an increase in membership. He then handed over the chain of office to Ms Arnott and wished her a happy and rewarding year.

Town councillor and former Henley mayor Stefan Gawrysiak, of Elizabeth Road, Henley, was inducted as president elect and Ian McGaw, of Lauds Close, Henley, was named president for 2017-18.

The evening was rounded off with a highly entertaining talk by Malcolm Nelson on his 40 years of catching smugglers at Heathrow airport.

He told many hilarious anecdotes, including how drug smugglers had brought cannabis into Britain in hand-stitched bananas and secreted heroin in coconuts.

The club holds dinner meetings on Wednesday evenings and breakfast meetings on alternate Thursdays. New members are welcome to apply to either. All meetings are held at Badgemore Park Golf Club. For more information, email michael.pooley1@ homecall.co.uk
