Scouts in cash plea

SCOUTS want to raise £8,250 for charity work in Uganda.

SCOUTS want to raise £8,250 for charity work in Uganda.

Five members of the 2nd Goring and Streatley British Boy Scouts hope to visit the country next year to extend a vocational training centre near the town of Jinja.

Each must pay £850 for their flight and raise another £1,650 towards the cost of the work.

In 2010, the scouts helped to build the £100,000 centre, which teaches masonry, carpentry, hairdressing and seamstressing.

Now they want to add classrooms, put up a fence and build a kitchen so pupils can learn baking.

Scout master David Cooksley said: “Donations will be gratefully received. The scouts will be giving up many hours for the benefit of those less fortunate.”
