THE LA Fitness gym in Henley has shut a day earlier than planned
THE LA Fitness gym in Henley has shut a day earlier than planned.
The facility in Newtown Road was due to close this evening (Friday) but instead wound up at 10pm last night.
A group of residents who are campaigning to save it had announced a protest in the gym car park at 3pm today. This morning they confirmed it is still going ahead.
In an email to members, LA Fitness CEO Martin Long said he was concerned about employees' safety.
He said: "It is with regret that we announce this early closure... but the welfare of our members and staff is paramount and we are legally obliged to hand over our keys to the landlord in a timely and cooperative fashion."
LA Fitness is being evicted by its landlord Henthames, which is understood to want planning permission for a care home.
But this week an unidentified investor came forward to express an interest in buying it and reopening it as a gym.
