Youth club re-opens on one day

THE youth club in Watlington has re-opened for one day a week.

THE youth club in Watlington has re-opened for one day a week.

The club closed in July after failing to find a new committee. Now it is open each Tuesday.

Parish councillor Jo Read, who is the treasurer, told a council meeting that four committee members were needed, including a chairman. The latter role would suit someone who was newly retired or in business.

In May, parish councillor Roger Beattie, who was then acting chairman, said a new committee of five people had to be found.

Initially six people expressed an interest in joining and Mr Beattie said he was confident the club could continue.

However, no one turned up at the next meeting and it was decided to close the club.

Mr Beattie said: “The decision was taken because if people didn’t come forward it closed, full stop.”

He had been helping run the club for about 10 years while former treasurer Carol Martin has been involved since it opened about 15 years ago.

The club, which is based at Watlington pavilion, off Shirburn Road, used to open on Tuesdays and Thursdays for children ageed up to 14 and would attract between 12 and 20 youngsters each night.
