THE 231st meeting took place at Badgemore Park Golf Club with a packed audience to hear Jon Scourse talk about his love of the countryside around us.
The chairman welcomed the members and a number of guests and new members.
Pam also told us she had received a letter from the chairman of the men’s club, congratulating us on our 20th anniversary at the last  meeting.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and she reminded members that the annual subs were now due.
Pam then introduced Mr Scourse, who gave us a beautifully illustrated and interesting talk, entitled “The beauty of the landscape around you”.
We were taken on a tour around the Chiltern Hills and Jon pointed out that the beech woods in the Chilterns were man made hundreds of years ago for the furniture industry, which supplied the whole world. Otherwise the Chilterns would have been green pastureland.
Mr Scourse then continued to educate us on the area the Chilterns covered with the Ridgeway footpath dating back to 4000BC.
The details of the history that he packed into his talk were absolutely fascinating and made us all keen to explore our locality a little more thoroughly.
There was quite a rush to buy his very attractive book, which can also be bought at local bookshops.
Marianne Ingledew gave the vote of thanks. The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 10 when Tony King will be on hand to give us a musical version of Another Op’nin, Another Show.
