Appeal for firefighters

MORE on-call firefighters are needed in Goring.

MORE on-call firefighters are needed in Goring.

The village fire station in Icknield Road is crewed by 12 staff who live or work in the area and are able to respond to calls promptly.

However, about 17 are needed for the team to work at its best. At the moment they must work extra shifts or stay on call longer to make up gaps in the service.

In the past 12 months, the crew has attended 68 incidents including last year’s massive blaze at South Oxfordshire District Council’s offices in Crowmarsh.

The firefighters also give regular safety talks and appear at community events with their engine.

Candidates will get full training plus payment for being on call and going to incidents. For more information, call station manager Marcus Reay on 07788 183050 or visit the station at 7pm on a Wednesday.

• Community first responders are also being sought in the Goring area. For more information, call 0800 587 0207 or email cfr@scas.nhs.uk
