Scout hut doors grant

SCOUTS and guides in Sonning Common have been given a £2,000 grant by the parish council.

SCOUTS and guides in Sonning Common have been given a £2,000 grant by the parish council.

They will put the money towards new glass doors at their headquarters in Baskerville Road. The total cost for the work will be £3,800.

Councillor John Stoves, chairman of the council’s finance committee, said he had attended the group’s annual meeting, adding: “I was very impressed by the numbers there.

“They seemed to be well organised and have plenty of volunteers. They’ve asked us to contribute as much as we can.”

Councillor Stan Rust said the current doors could pose a health and safety issue risk.

The council unanimously agreed to award the grant.
