Sailing club open day fun despite red boards

VISITORS to Henley Sailing Club’s open day on Saturday were prevented from taking to the water because of the condition of the River Thames

VISITORS to Henley Sailing Club’s open day on Saturday were prevented from taking to the water because of the condition of the River Thames.

The Environment Agency advised people not to go out in boats because of the strong flows. Commodore Carol Stitson said the day was still a success with more than 35 people visiting the club off Willow Lane, Wargrave.

“It was just disappointing that because there were red boards up we couldn’t sail,” she said. “Those people who are keen to sail and join the club are going to come back. There were quite a few other people who were thinking about it.”

Visitors were shown the boathouse and the club’s 10-strong fleet of boats and were offered cream teas and barbecue food.
