Village Gardeners to enter Britain in Bloom awards

A GROUP of volunteers who look after flower beds and green spaces in Sonning Common celebrated their third anniversary.

About 30 people attended a party for the Village Gardeners at the village hall.

They watched a presentation that illustrated how the village has been transformed and then enjoyed a buffet.

The group confirmed it will enter next year’s Britain in Bloom awards for the first time and Pete Thompson, a judge for the Thames and Chilterns region of the competition, gave a presentation. Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury said she had no background in gardening before setting up the group with Jill Greenwood in 2010.

She said: “Jill and I started with a bit of weeding and had no idea that we could achieve the level we have with all the help we’ve had.
