No relief for commuters as bridge opens

DRIVERS using Sonning Bridge continue to face traffic chaos despite its re-opening on Monday.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed while Oxfordshire County Council carries out an assessment of Playhatch Road, which suffered subsidence following the floods.

Only one side of a stretch of the road is currently open, meaning queues backed up to Henley Road at Playhatch and the bridge at rush hour.

A flood warning for communities along the River Thames between Henley and Medmenham has been downgraded to an alert but a warning still remains in place in Wargrave and Shiplake.

The Environment Agency says river levels remain high but are slowly falling, while no further property flooding is expected.

The Met Office forecasts a dry today today but rain tomorrow and Friday.
