Football pitch damaged by children

A FOOTBALL team has been unable to play for more than a month after its pitch was damaged by children.

Rotherfield United under-11s have had to postpone every game since before Christmas due to the poor state of its pitch at Bishopswood Sports Ground in Gallowstree Common.

Club chairman Andy Tidswell said the damage was caused by youngsters playing on the pitch during the holidays.

He said: “Some of the local kids decided to have a football match. Rather than find a bit of grass which wasn’t on the pitch, they played right in the middle of it.

“We don’t know how many people there were or who they were. They moved the goals across the pitch to create a mini pitch.
