Mother and daughter with eye for a photo

AN amateur photographer has followed in her mother’s footsteps after taking third place in a national competition.

Kate Wallace, 17, from Frieth, entered the under-18s category of the Royal Horticultural Society’s national photography competition with a picture of a palm leaf she took on a school trip to Kew Gardens.

Kate, whose mother Rachel is a professional freelance photographer, was awarded an A* in GCSE photography and is now studying for her A-levels at Sir William Borlase’s Gramma School in Marlow. Her award-winning photo was taken on her Nikon D70 camera and was one of three she entered.

Kate said: “I received an email in early December saying I had been shortlisted. That was excitement enough for me but then I got an email the day before the official announcement saying I had got third. I did not expect that at all.

“As soon as I got the email I raced down and told mum.”
