A SERIES of events aims to put Dunsden on the “world map” with its link to the poet Wilfred Owen, who lived in the village before the First World War.
The Dunsden Owen Association is creating a Wilfred Owen Trail, an interpretation board on the village green and a programme of oral history recordings. The poet lived in the village from 1911 to 1913 and was a lay assistant at Dunsden church.
The association hopes to confirm officially that its partner Outrider Anthems has been awarded a grant of £22,800 by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Co-chairman John Bodman said: “Every day we are involved in doing something towards our plans. It is a very big project and that’s why we have this substantial grant. What we really want to do is put Dunsden on the world map.”
The funding will also cover the cost of a special exhibition to be held at Dunsden village hall. Other plans include a film about Owen’s life in Dunsden.
