Veteran who became decorator

WILLIAM James Roberts was born on October 28, 1926 and died on January 11, 2014.

Bill lived his entire life in and around Henley and many will remember him as a postman and later as a painter and decorator.

A sailor who served in the Second World War, he was secretary of the Henley and Maidenhead Burma Star Association for 26 years.

One of the biggest influences of his early life was the boy scout movement and he was to hold the principles he learnt there throughout his life.

He would often talk about his early life and the hard times endured in the early Thirties. Being one of nine children living in a four-room semi-detached bungalow cannot have been easy.
