A BALLOON released by a Caversham schoolboy for charity was found more than 700 miles away in Germany.
Oscar George, 10, a pupil at Micklands Primary School, had written his name on the label of the red British Heart Foundation balloon label and drawn a heart with a smiling face.
It was found 12 days later by 70-year-old woman in Luneburg, near Hamburg, who had just come out of hospital after suffering a heart attack.
She wrote to the school, saying: Receiving this postcard with good wishes for my health at this point in my life was like a miracle to me.
On March 19 I will return to the hospital for another treatment. Thinking about the wonderful postcard will give me strength. All my best wishes to you and your pupils.
Oscar said he couldnt believe how far his balloon had travelled.
The school had organised a mass balloon release as the father of two pupils is waiting for a heart transplant.
Headteacher Sharon Jones said: I often talk to the children in assembly about how little things we do can make a difference to the lives of others and this has really proved the point.
