A BOATBUILDER from Hambleden has received an award from the Heritage Craft Association.
Colin Henwood, of Henwood and Dean in Dairy Lane, won maker of the year at the association’s spring conference held at Carpenters’ Hall, London.
Phil Harding, of Channel 4’s Time Team, presented the award, which recognises excellence and extraordinary contribution in the UK’s heritage craft sector.
Mr Henwood, who received £1,000 in prize money, said: “I am enormously grateful to the Heritage Crafts Association and the Wooden Boatbuilders Trade Association which nominated me. To be acknowledged in such a way by your peers is very humbling.” He wants to use the prize money to promote craftsmanship and encourage young people who are considering a career in making things with their hands.
The conference celebrated traditional living crafts and was attended by craftsmen and women who are regarded as some of the best in their fields.
