Charity pays to replace storm-damaged greenhouse

A DAMAGED greenhouse at a sheltered housing estate has been replaced thanks to a donation.

Goring, Woodcote and District Lions Club paid £280 for the new greenhouse in the communal garden at the Soha complex in Mowforth Close, Woodcote.

The old greenhouse was built in November by residents Paul and Gill Sykes but it was blown over and smashed in the strong winds that swept across the country on Christmas Eve.

The couple, who also have a vegetable patch, were using the greenhouse to grow cowslips and primroses as they planned to plant a wild meadow for their neighbours but all the seedlings were damaged. Now they plan to grow chillis, tomatoes and courgettes in the new greenhouse to give to other residents.

The greenhouse is anchored to the ground with concrete and has plastic double glazing rather than glass panes.
