Councillor dies at 86

A BENSON parish councillor, who served the community continuously for more than 40 years, has died.

Donald Fletcher, 86, of Westfield Road, died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on Friday.

Cllr Fletcher, a former teacher at Fir Tree Junior School in Wallingford, served as chairman of the council from 1975 to 1980.

He was involved in the distribution of the Benson Bulletin and was a member of the Benson and Ewelme branch of the Royal British Legion. He was also involved in setting up Benson Youth Club.

In a statement, Benson Parish Council said: “Cllr Fletcher’s presence and experience on the council will be greatly missed and all the Benson parish councillors and parish staff would like to convey their condolences to his family.”
