Residents win fight to stop pub conversion

A BUSINESSMAN has been refused planning permission to turn a village pub into a house.

Satwinder Sandhu bought the former White Lion in Crays Pond last year but began the conversion without permission and was ordered by South Oxfordshire District Council to submit a retrospective planning application.

Now the council has refused permission after 400 people signed a protest petition.

The decision comes despite an independent report commissioned by the council which said the pub was no longer viable as a business and recommended approval of the application.

Mr Sandhu, from Huddersfield, bought the pub off Greene King and said initially that he intended to open an Indian restaurant but then revealed that he and his family would live at the premises.
