Whitchurch Bridge toll to be reviewed

THE cost of crossing Whitchurch toll bridge could go up next year.

The Whitchurch Bridge Company says it will be reviewing the need to increase its 40p charge in September.

The bridge is currently shut for refurbishment, which was expected to cost about £4.4 million.

However, the company now says it is likely to cost nearer £5.6 million because of setbacks due to flooding this year.

If it decides to apply to the Government for permission to raise the toll, it would aim to do so in October.

There would then have to be a public inquiry, which could take up to a year.

A full story will appear in this week's Henley Standard.
