Memorial requested

THE family of a long-serving Henley brownie leader who died in November have asked for a memorial to her.

Jean Barrett, who ran 1st Henley Brownies for 30 years, was nominated to receive the town medal but the request was turned down by the town council because it can’t be awarded posthumously.

Now her daughter-in-law Hilary Bennett has asked the council for a memorial to mark her years of voluntary service.

Mrs Barrett was brown owl from 1968 to 1996 when she retired due to disability. She also supported the Royal British Legion by selling poppies and led the brownies on parade at the Remembrance Sunday services.
