New £60,000 Handibus after donation

A NEW Henley Handibus is on the way thanks to a cash boost.

The Henley Over-60s Club donated £9,000 to the Henley and District Handibus Scheme to help replace the current bus, which has been running for 11 years.

The volunteer-run service is the only means of transport for many elderly and infirm residents, allowing them to go shopping and attend social events. About three quarters of all the Handibus journeys take people from their homes to the club in the Greys Road car park. The bus also transports members of the Stroke Club and Meteor Club and runs shopping trips to Reading and Henley.

The new £60,000 bus has been ordered and is due to arrive in the summer.

Robin Rippon, chairman of the Henley and District Handibus Scheme, said: “We are extremely grateful for this huge cheque to go towards our new bus. Our present bus is showing its age and needs replacing. It means that we have got enough money to fund the bus without doing any more fund-raising.”
